Application  The innovative idea combining all volume control, channel setting and menu function in one operating device came up by one of the leading radio manufacturers. Using an Encoder with push button function is allowing the user to switch between these three main functions where the encoder itself is responsible for volume, channel and menu setting. Furthermore there were extremely demanding specifications towards ruggedness and environmental stress being fulfilled.

Elma Solution  With regards to a top selling mechanical incremental encoder including a push button function of type E27 as a standard product available fundamental design changes were needed to meet the specific application requirements and the quality level expected.

Why did Elma win?  The capability to provide in-depth engineering and customization of a cost-effective industrial standard product was allowing us to fulfill the very demanding specifications. The entire design was affected by these changes so the standard plastic bushing had to be replaced by steel as well as the spindle shaft which is originally made of aluminum. Extreme shock, vibration and force resistance were challenging our R&D people coming up with an economic and adequate solution being processed also fully automatically.
