Elma Electronic Inc., a global manufacturer of electronic packaging products and rotary components, today acquired Optima Electronic Packaging Systems, a leading cabinet enclosure design and manufacturing division of the Gichner Systems Group, Inc. The name will be changed to Optima EPS Corp. This purchase allows Elma to offer a full line of electronic cabinets.
Optima EPS has been designing, manufacturing, and distributing electronic enclosures, server racks, cabinets, and security consoles since its founding by Scientific-Atlanta, Inc. in 1962. In 1986, the company joined the Gichner Systems Group, a leading manufacturer of transportable military shelter systems. Optima EPS’s strong military/aerospace and communications customer base complements Elma’s target market for their main product lines. Optima EPS will be integrated into the Elma Americas structure. Elma main product categories include Backplanes, System Platforms, Enclosures and Rotary Components.
The electronic cabinet line includes a product mix of EMC, NEMA, Mil/Aero, Seismic, Co-location, and Server cabinets. With a broad product range, rugged extruded aluminum construction, and an aesthetic contemporary design, Optima EPS will be able to offer customers an attractive solution. Like Elma’s other operations, Optima EPS offers an experienced team for engineering and customization services. Located in Atlanta, GA, Optima EPS provides EEI with a strong presence in the Southeast USA. Optima EPS currently operates 110,000-sqft sales, engineering and manufacturing facility with 75 employees. EEI has local sales and application engineering offices available for customers throughout the East Coast: Northeast (Chelmsford, MA), Mid-Atlantic (Prince Frederick, MD) and now Southeast (Atlanta, GA). This complements EEI’s strong West Coast presence, with the company’s headquarters in Fremont, CA and sales resp. manufacturing locations in Los Angeles, CA and Lathrop, CA.
